Kilts and life

Take me out to the ballgame

We went to the ny Yankee cleveland indian today, 6/12/11!
I am paying less and less attention. I am not looking for a response. A young gal next to us took a look. I saw her eyes pass to her fathers eyes asking wtf. She is much too young to get it.
It’s all cool!

Discover Jazz 2011 & Bangkok Bistro

Burlington, Vermont

Happening college, artsy, granola eatin town.
Only one person in town wearing a kilt?

ME!!!!!!!!!

The town could be more happening!
One person did recognize the Utilikilt (mocker).
Another asks for the tartan.
I told her decisions needed to be made

&  we traveled light.

This is always a great weekend.

Great music, crafts, food &  drink.

If you come, don’t miss Bangkok Bistro on Church St.

The best!
Great food.
Great people watching.

Spring hopes eternal

Made me think of spring.

Vacationed in new Mexico & St Martin this winter. Kilting all the way! The kilt drew some accolades going thru security in Newark. People wishing they could do it.
People recognizing the Utilikilt design. Very cool.
I don’t think anyone in New Mexico noticed.,
St. Martin drew some looks but not when you might expect.
In a fashion area. They mustn’t know that “Dressed to kilt” is rapidly approaching.
Alas no invitation. That would be quite the blast.
Seems I never get around to writing.
Discover Jazz coming up in June. Bitches Brew&  Herbie Hancock.
Very very cool.

Well it has been quite some time since I’ve had the head/ opportunity to write.
I was out last Friday night after my office party. I had on jeans. Wouldn’t you guess that: 1) someone didn’t recognize me with my pants on! (Got a few looks) 2) I ran into someone all decked w/ tartan kilt, broughlies, sghian dube, flashes, down @ Blue Martini on the Newburgh waterfront.
A good time was had by all.

Happy New Year

Chimayo

A road side shot driving south from Albequerque to Truth Or Consequences

Well, it has been a while.

First it was Thanksgiving and then it was Xmas, then New Years.

Well, I started off the year by being sick for two weeks. What a drag!

I will be in for a new experience next week. It’s vacation time.

A kilt going through airport security. Let’s see who gets patted down.

Hey!!! There’s nothing under the kilt!!!!!!!!!!!

We are off to New Mexico. Lady Astral is already there. Her flight arrives now! I’ll be going out next weekend for 10 days. I love it.

Good body work and great places to soak. Hot Springs is now called Truth or Consequences. Look it up.

I will try to be more diligent about writing now that the holidays are past. It’s my least favorite time of the year. The holidays do not mean what they are supposed to mean. They are lost in the commercials. SOKhucks! No one got me a Lexus for Xmas! Oh well.

I’ll be in touch from New Mexico, the Land Of Enchantment.
See you soon Lady Astral!

Ten Pins

Monday night is bowling night. I brought it to a whole new level this past Monday. I wore my Utilikilt. I bowled 40 pins over my average. My bowling mates did not make too many comments. I did get the bagpipe question. A lot of my strikes and spares were attributed to my kilt. An older dude came over wearing shorts & checking out my kilt. Before he comment, I asked him he wasn’t cold wearing shorts! No way he would wear a kilt and have his thing hanging out!
I’ll keep wearing it. It’s all cool.

i must go down to the sea again

Newport in November

Lady Astral & I had a great time in Newport. The negative ions, the rain, the ocean breezes, the smell of the salt air……
Whether it is the ocean, the sound, the Hudson River, there is something mesmerizing, hypnotic, invigorating about being by water, whatever form.
I always recall this poem. Check out Lady Astrals tweets!

I Must Go Down to the Sea
I must go down to the seas again,
to the lonely sea and the sky,
And all I ask is a tall ship
and a star to steer her by,
And the wheel’s kick and the wind’s song and the white sail’s shaking,
And a grey mist on the sea’s face
and a grey dawn breaking.
I must go down to the seas again,
for the call of the running tide
Is a wild call and a clear call
that may not be denied;
And all I ask is a windy day
with the white clouds flying,
And the flung spray and the blown spume,
and the sea-gulls crying.
I must go down to the seas again,
to the vagrant gypsy life,
To the gull’s way and the whale’s way where the wind’s like a whetted knife;
And all I ask is a merry yarn
from a laughing fellow-rover,
And quiet sleep and a sweet dream when the long trick’s over.   – John Masefield

springback fall ahead!

Wow! We had dinner tonite @ Fluke in Newport. What an incredible dining experience. We had dinner on the 2nd floor. Cheese & charcuterie. Very tasty cheeses & meats.
Garrotxa, Serrano
Cotswold Cheddar
Napolitana
Parmigiano Reggiano

Almond stuffed dates wrapped in bacon (could have been desert! Way good!),

Grilled Spiced Pork Tenderloin—Fried Chickpeas, Spinach, Dates, Figs & Apricots,

Pan Seared Scallops—Pumpkin, Hazelnuts, Maple Glazed Bacon, Brussels Sprouts..

After dinner we went to the bar on the 3rd floor for dessert and an after dinner drink. The Milk Chocolate and Hazelnut Pudding with Hazelnut Praline was incredibly light. The Goat’s Cheesecake topped with Roasted Black Mission Figs was unbelievably good. Food & drinks were very good. Company @ the bar was pleasant. Be there! Go there! Don’t miss Fluke if you are in Newport!
With regards to my scotch endeavor! I ordered Oban @ dinner. They were out of Oban. The bartender recommended Laguvigen. At first it had an amazing nose. The bouquet was very complex. I did not feel that the taste lived up to the bouquet. I discussed scotch with one of the owners. She understood my take and offered up an option of Springback. I tried it after dinner. It was a very nice choice.
She introduced me to smoky vs. peaty!
At the bar, I opted for an alternate based upon the bartenders recommendation.
Balvenie. It was a lighter, less aromatic scotch. Not as dirty. More later.

here’s to cardinal puff…

We’re having a great time. Day 2 of R&R vacation. Diiner @ The Mooring.
If you come, have the “bag of donuts”. It’s a seafood app! Totally good.
I went back to the end of my roots/ the start of the single malt era. I had the Glenfiddich.
I need to go back to chivas & black label and start over. Glenfiddich is smooth. That’s all for now.
